Dalit Community Foundation is a philanthropic institution established on 28th November 2018 by members of the Dalit community for all round development of the community members. The dream of Dalit Community Foundation based on community philanthropy has been cherished long by the initial think tank Mr. Ramkishor Prasad Singh, General Secretary of Gramin Evam Nagar Vikas Parishad and Renji George Joseph. The process of institution building took shape after the discussions with Jenny Hodgson of GFCF in the year 2011. The advent of Mr. Santosh Samal, Ex Director Dalit Foundation and the technical support extended by Ms Anju Sinha shaped a facilitator team. The evolvement of Dalit Community Foundation has been through years of efforts steered by Gramin Evam Nagar Vikas Parishad (GENVP) through the Community Based Organization ‘Dalit Sangarsh Morcha’. The learning and experience gained in this phase was institutionalized with the support of Global Fund for Community Foundations (GFCF). The foundation is a result of the direct inspiration from Baba Saheb's ideology with regard to "Giving back to society". It is envisioned that the larger Dalit community shall not only be able to bridge the various class and caste differences in its quest for self respect and dignity of life but also serve a leadership role in promoting similar values for the larger society. Most of the existing institutions at community level are either religious in nature or are civil society. Development focused Community Foundation is a relatively new concept in Bihar as well as in the Indian Context. Community Owned and self sustained institutions have the potential to transform they way communities address their issues of social justice and "Dalit Community Foundation" in Bihar shall play a critical role in this new narrative.
All the members of Dalit community live with self respect and dignity by bridging their differences and promoting community philanthropy in the wider society.
